Time Out New York Stops by The Liquor Cabinet

Time Out New York Stops By The Liquor Cabinet

Meet the grown-up upgrade to raiding your parents' liquor cabinet-the back bar at this lobby drinkery inside the Gregory Hotel closes and locks just like your dad's did way back when. Operating as a coffee counter in the morning, the marble bar switches to cocktails around midday, employing local spirits in classics like Manhattans with Catskill's Defiant Rye, sidecars with Tuthilltown's Hudson Baby Bourbon and the Bond-approved vesper with NY Distilling Co.'s Perry's Tot gin. Beers also skew local, including Ommegang Rare Vos Amber Ale and Kelso Nut Brown Ale. And Mr. Bond himself would feel at ease in the 1950s-esque digs, all herringbone floors, lit fireplaces and leather armchairs.
Classy Booze Hits Midtown

Classy Booze Hits Midtown

The Gregory Hotel's lobby replicates the feel of a classic Manhattan townhouse, and no such home would be complete without a liquor cabinet to raid.. Tucked into the building once home to Waldorf-Astoria counterpart, The Gregorian, The Liquor Cabinet tips its hat to old New York with classic cocktails made with premium ingredients and a bounty of locally produced beers, wines and spirits. Enjoy a Ginger Bootlegger (NY Bootlegger Vodka, Canton Ginger, Cointreau and ginger beer) at one of the custom stone high tables or let the last warm September breezes blow over you by the large windows, open during warmer months.

A Well Tailored Experience at The Gregory Hotel

The Gregory Hotel reminds me of a well tailored suit. I know that may sound a bit odd but it does… Upon entering The Gregory I was impressed by it's cool, sophisticated and tailored aesthetic. My double bed room was just as sophisticated. The staff at The Gregory really knew how to welcome a girl in.

Hickey Freeman

The venerable tailored clothing brand has teamed with The Gregory, a new boutique hotel in the Garment District, to outfit its staff. Hickey has created looks for the concierge/front desk staff, bartenders, and bellmen that are designed to reflect the hotel's bespoke aesthetic. The uniforms center around a color palette of gray, white and blue.

'Do Not Disturb' These Hotel Door Hangers

Hotels across the country are making sure their "Do Not Disturb" signs are getting the point across the flair. Now they come in different sizes, shapes, and fonts and with cheeky messages. Hotel managers say the signs are one way they can distinguish themselves from other properties.

Signature scents at hotels: Love 'em or lose 'em?

The first thing Sheila Haas noticed when she checked into an apartment hotel in Los Angeles recently was the smell: a sweet, metallic fragrance wafting through her room. It's not your imagination. Something smells at an increasing number of hotels. How many hotels are engaged in environmental fragrancing? No one knows for certain.

I Went to Prom for the First Time at 32 - And It Was So Worth the Wait

For reasons that don't make much sense now, I skipped my senior prom.  A few months ago I realized I would need to take matters into my own hands - though not without a little help from my co-workers. The dress, the hair, the makeup…so much to plan! After weeks of anticipation, the big day was finally here. Before long, we were in full-on pre-game party mode, and I was literally living my best life ever.

New Cocktails to Celebrate Springtime

Despite the weather's vagaries, cocktails are embracing refreshing flavors and bright colors to say, "Enough already - spring's here." The classic Sidecar gets a little twist at The Liquor Cabinet, with fresh lime juice and Local New York bourbon.

Dog-Friendly Hotels in New York City

Nowhere is traveling with a dog more fraught with confrontation than New York City. However, with the new 2016 city ordinance allowing dogs on restaurant and bar patios with their humans, New York is becoming more welcoming to travelers with dogs, in summer at least. It's often surprising which hotels are pet friendly and which are not. Just off Herald Square, The Gregory Hotel is an oasis of cool and calm. It allows one dog per room up to 50-pounds, but the weight limit is mainly to avoid what the hotel thinks might be an aggressive breed.
