St. Patrick’s Cathedral | North America’s Grandest Church

July 06, 2018

In a city filled with iconic buildings, one stands out more than the rest. St. Patrick’s Cathedral is one of largest Neo-Gothic-style cathedrals in all of North America. Taking up the entire block between 50th and 51st and Fifth Avenue, it's one of New York City's most distinctive landmarks. Situated directly across from Rockefeller Plaza visitors can travel between the two. Cool fact, the aerial view of St. Patricks’s architecture resembles the shape of a cross, which is common with many grand cathedrals. Upon entering the church, gaze upon the impressive twin 329.5-foot spires that majestically flank the center facade. Various altars inside the cathedral were designed by famous Roman artist Paolo Medici and Tiffany & Company, while artist Charles Connick designed the stunning stained-glass windows and the iconic rose window. Sporadic tours are led throughout the week, and mass is still held seven times a day. Groups of ten or more should call ahead to reserve a private guided tour.
